Best beaches of Guanacaste- Many Ticos say that the best beaches in Costa Rica are in Guanacaste . The truth is that we disagree a little, although you can not doubt its beauty. The Guanacaste beaches are less wild than the Caribbean ones . That is, without so much atmosphere and many of them surrounded by large hotel chains. In this post we present the 10 best beaches in Guanacaste .
Top best beaches of Guanacaste
Without a doubt, our favorite Guanacaste beach. It is a special beach, different from all the others. And is that its sand is composed of small white shells . It is also perfect for lovers of snorkeling : the section closest to Brasilito has a tiny coral reef where you can see all kinds of fish. For the turquoise of its water and for being a quite calm beach (in spite of being tourist), we believe that Conchal is one of the best beaches of Guanacaste.

And from one of the most touristic beaches in Costa Rica we went to a super solitaire. Playa Danta is located in Las Catalina’s, a beautiful beach town that already deserves a visit. So to access it you will have to do it for the people. It is only 15 minutes by car from Playa Flamingo. If you have not rented a car like us, a taxi will cost you around $ 40 round trip. Playa Danta has few tourists and little waves. Without a doubt, one of the best beaches in Guanacaste to relax and enjoy the holidays.
But if you want to go a little further and find a beach even more secluded and pretty than Danta, you have to go to Dantita. She is the little sister of Playa Danta . In fact, only rocks separate them. It is quite complicated to access it, that’s why there are never any people. If the tide is low, you can do it directly over the rocks. Otherwise there is a little dirt path of about one kilometer that will take you to Dantita. We advise you to bring some sneakers (or tennis shoes) just in case.
Playa Dantita is one of the best beaches in Guanacaste . Clear water and peace. What more could you want?
Who does not like white sand on beaches? Well, in Samara you can enjoy it surrounded by vegetation. In general it is a quite common place to snorkel, since you will see many marine species. If you like animals, Samara still has a gift kept for you. Directly opposite there is a deserted little island where you will be able to observe a lot of birds. If you want to photograph them closely, you can rent a kayak and venture to the island. In addition, the town of Samara is quite charming, perfect for eating and buying souvenirs. Undoubtedly, one of the best beaches in Guanacaste.
It is one of the most charming beaches in Guanacaste. It is extensive and tranquilita, without many people. The access is quite easy. When the tide is low, in Guiones Sur you can enjoy authentic natural pools. It is also ideal for those who want to start in the world of surfing.
This was the area where we decided to stay in Guanacaste since there are several hotels and condominiums. At the same time it is quite extensive but without crowds. The main attraction of this beach is to enjoy its beautiful sunsets. When the water is calm, a great idea is to rent a snorkel gear and discover its incredible marine life. And do not miss the Coco Loco restaurant at the end of the beach! It is a real show.
Tamarindo beach is one of the busiest in Costa Rica. In part, because its old fishing village is very visited. In fact, it has become one of the most developed areas of the country. Also Tamarindo is super active at night, although the atmosphere is not the best. It also offers a lot of hotel infrastructure and is an ideal beach for surfers . If you are looking for something more relaxed you can escape to Playa Langosta.
In Playa Hermosa you can breathe serenity and it is a great option to unwind on your holidays and enjoy the sun. In total there are two kilometers of gray sand beach. Its surroundings are also beautiful: a tropical forest surrounds it and still makes it more attractive to spend the day. In general, the weather conditions are good, so we think it is one of the best beaches in Guanacaste.
This is another of the hidden gems of the province. It is a little unknown beach, especially for tourists. It is relatively close to Playa Flamingo and its access is a little complicated. For this reason it is quite tranquilita. There are hardly any waves and its crystal clear waters make you think you are in paradise.
And finally, we can not finish this post about the best beaches in Guanacaste without mentioning the Pan de Azúcar beach. Or better known as Sugar Beach . This white sand beach is one of the most unknown in Guanacaste. It is perfect for swimming and diving, as the waters allow it . It’s about 30 minutes by car from Playa Conchal. Access is a tad complicated and there are two options: either on foot from Playa Prieta or on a dirt road until you reach the beach.
